Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 11-Inch Skillet, Cafe Brown Review

So I got this skillet a few months ago and was a bit dissapointed with the fact that everything I cooked in it will stick like crazy even when adding oil or butter. Eggs were a mess and pancakes I can't even start saying; so I decided to use it for deep frying and see if it was good at least for that! Well after I fried some "empanadas" and discarded the canola oil that I used I saw that the skillet had developed that "patina" they talk about and that I was wanting so bad; so I just cleaned it with a stiff brush and water; no soap, as recommended. Well, next day I used the skillet to make pancakes and eggs and I achieved the results that I was expecting when I first bought this pan. The surface is now completely non-stick and I have made pancakes and eggs several times after that, I always add a bit of butter and let heat just a bit. I always clean it with a brush and no soap, dry with paper towel and put away until next time. Most of my enameled cast iron is Le Creuset which I love but you don't need to spend that much for the skillet, this Lodge will perfom the same if not better. Oh and by the way I did my research and there is no lead or harmful chemicals in this line even though it is made in China. I'm now going to order the grill pan and panini press from this same line. Thank you Logde and thank you Amazon for the amazing price!

Cooking with a basic cast iron skillet is wonderful. Fun to have the pretty blue enamel, and you can't beat the functionality of cast iron for cooking everything from soup to nuts! Yes, I've toasted pumpkin seeds but haven't made soup in it - yet!

I made this purchase because I love cooking with cast-iron and need one with the enanel coating on the outside because I recently purchased a glass top stove. However like some of the other viewer's I agree about the inside coating. I thought the inside was just going to be the regular cast iron. I didn't realize that it had a coating on it. It works pretty good and things don't stick to much so overall I am pleased. But would rather it just be left with no coating or the enamel coating like the dutch oven has.

I was worried about the versatility of the pan, but we use it for everything. From grilling steaks, chicken, fish, and making grilled sandwiches - it works amazingly well. You can move seamlessly from the stove-top to the oven, making perfectly cooked meals.

It is a heavy cast iron pan and the bottom is not as pretty as it was when it was new due to our gas stove. We don't mind as that is superficial and does not affect the pans cooking ability. I know this pan will do a great job for years ahead - it is a tank!

I bought this grill pan for those times when one cannot grill on the barbecue outside due to adverse weather. We actually have a George Foreman grill which works really well but is larger than this pan and requires an electrical connection. This Le Creuset grill pan is quicker and easier to use with results that are at least as good. It is beautifully finished and, with nicely formed ridges on the bottom of the pan, distributes heat evenly. I'm very satisfied.

I really love this pan. Had it for a year or so. Lamb chops/burgers and buffalo burgers come out perfect. It is a little work to clean, but not bad for a grill pan. I heat up the pan a little and wipe it with paper towels before washing.



Low quality - might be an OPEN BOX item - Jie Li -
I'm a fan of Le Creuset so I bought it from Amazon last week. But when I recieved it today through Fedex, I was really surprised.

There's nothing wrong with the shipping, the shipping package was - I took out the package of the pan and found on one side of the edge of the orange cardboard box was teared, someone sealed it by a piece of tape carelessly with dirt on the inner side. The pan itself was also not in a perfect condition, one of its "ears" was not coated completely and I can tell that was not a shipping problem. I guess someone else bought this pan and found the problem, returned it, then Amazon sold it to me. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe LC just shipped this flawed pan to Amazon directly with crappy packaging... If this is not an open box item, that means the quality control of Le Creuset may have big problems.

I'm printing the returning label now. I don't know why this happened. I have been shopping on Amazon for two years for most of my stuff but this is the first time I'm pissed off. Do double check it when you receive this pan!

I have had either a beard or goatee for the last 28 years, and for most of this time I owned a Wahl trimmer. My first Wahl lasted 10 years, my second Wahl lasted for 8 years. I took a 3 year break using a Norelco (which was a Christmas gift), however, I was never satisfied with the cut at longer settings. I ultimately went back to various Wahl trimmers, yet they all gave out (battery, motor, etc) in less than 2 years.

Deciding to give Wahl one last chance. I purchased the "All-in-One Trimmer Kit," given that it had a 5-year warranty. The battery quit recharging after the 3rd month, and Wahl's position was since I failed to keep my receipt, there was no warranty coverage. Please note that my failure to keep the receipt was definitely my fault. However, I can say, through personal experience, that Wahl's quality and performance has SIGNIFICANTLY declined over the years (based on my last four purchases), and this was the last Wahl trimmer that I will ever own. If you cannot purchase any other trimmer but a Wahl, my advice is that you hold fast to your receipt...because I fear you will need it sooner rather than later. If any other option is available to you, I would strongly urge you to consider it, rather than purchasing a Wahl.

1 cm head of green cabbage, cut into 6 wedges

MD 6 carrots cut into quarters

1 cm onionquartered

1 clove garlic, crushed

Pour cold water on corned beef in Dutch oven lid tight. Add the onion and garlic. heated to boiling, reduce head. Cover and cook until meat is tender, about 2 hours. Remove beef to warm platter, keep warm. Skim fat from broth. Add the cabbage and carrots to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 15 minutes.

Dutch oven biscuits

2 C flour

2.1 ts Salt

Baking powder 3 TS

Solid shortening 4 TB

1 C milk (ordiluted milk carton)

Blend flour, salt, baking powder and mash in shortening with a fork until crumbly. Add milk and stir until the mixture is lowered down into the trough left by spoon as it moves around the bowl. Heuck stands up to the same quality, or is, as in this case, better than Le Creuset, Calphalon, etc. Enamel Cast Iron products have been around since the Industrial Revolution because of their wide versatility ("from the fire, to the fridge, to the freezer, and back to the fire"), extremely durability, and for being such a pleasure to use. Its porcelain enamel surface is inert - does not react chemically with any food, nor at any temperature. This skillet proves its worthiness with sautéing, frying, making stews and soups, brazing or slow roasting large cuts of meat, and even for baking such goodies as cornbread and coffee cake. Product ships with instructions on how best to clean and care for skillet and its different surfaces. However, it is further recommended that, if there are cooked-on food stains and particles, let soak for at least an hour in warm water, and hand clean this product with only the mildest dishwashing liquid and dishcloth or mildly abrasive sponge, but NOT in the dishwasher. The heat/water cycles of the appliance tend to eventually wear the shine of the enamel, making it opaque and diminishing the enamel's heat retention. As with any heavy cookware, such as Pyrex (another excellent product), one must also take care not to chip or break the porcelain enamel coating on the cast iron. This color choice is a deep Persian blue (not cobalt on the exterior), and is very beautiful with ivory white in the interior. You will receive many years of great use and pleasure of this product. It does fry very well, but we are a chicken frying family, which means we fry about once a week. Unfortunately, small cracks have developed in the bottom of the fryer making me a little nervous that it will chip off into the food. Wanted to give it no stars but that wasn't an option...I purchased one...worked great and quietly for about 6 months...it died...they replaced it for about 1/2 the cost...that one died after about 3 months. Tried a third time...it died...I learned my lesson! It's not worth the money or hassle.

There's a lot to love and little to hate about the Windchaser Mini Dehumidifier.

-small
-quiet
-low operating temperature (about 79F)
-low power consumption (the Peltier element should be used more by other products!)
-great customer support
-easy to repair

CONS
-seasonal maintenance - it will "break"
-small reservoir
-with no option to continually drain (e.g. into a... floor drain!)

When these things "break" it's just a matter of removing a few screws and some tape to get to the fan's bearing cover. Remove that, add some oil and reassemble. It's annoying, but these things are otherwise great. If you have problems, Windchaser customer support is pretty good. They're not the fastest to respond and their site/interface with the customer could be better, but they're very friendly and the end results of the user/company interaction is as desired: happiness!

If you need dry air in smallish areas, these things rock. Their features (PROS) are top notch and nobody else offers them.

I own two of this model and one of a slightly larger model.

This unit works well in a small confined area, such as under a stariwell or a closet. The dehumidifyer ran for almost a year before I needed to re-oil the unit as has been previously mentioned. The fix is so easy, it should be included in the product manual. The reservoir is small and it is easy to forget about it when it is running. Another fix that has been mentioned is drilling a hole in the removable reservoir and gluing a line in so that it can drain into a larger container or even into a drain. I did this and now the dehumidifyer sits on a 5 gallon bucket. I figure by the time it fills the bucket I need to 'check the oil' anyway. The dehumidifyer is efficient enough that when it is damp it can fill in as little as two to three days.
